Berlin puts up monument to Nazis' gay victims. Some 50,000 gay men were executed by the Nazis, and another 10,000-15,000 were sent to concentration camps--few of which survived.

New York to recognize gay marriages performed elsewhere.

ALBANY — Gov. David A. Paterson has directed all state agencies to begin to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, like Massachusetts, California and Canada.

In a directive issued on May 14, the governor’s legal counsel, David Nocenti, instructed the agencies that gay couples married elsewhere “should be afforded the same recognition as any other legally performed union.”

The revisions are most likely to involve as many as 1,300 statutes and regulations in New York governing everything from joint filing of income tax returns to transferring fishing licenses between spouses.

Abi Sutherland writes about Austrian physicist and mathematician Lise Meitner at Making Light. I just thought it was very interesting about a woman I knew little about.

Scientific American writes about the neurological roots of sexual pleasure. Some of it's not so new, but some of the other findings are very interesting.

OK, this is shameless of Vivien, but her entry in EREC's first line contest tied for 2nd place. Hers is the one about walking through the snow. The details aren't up yet, but it's the first line from her erotica short story, The Ice Butterfly.

In celebration of California's overturning the same-sex marriage ban, one of Vivien's favorite gay erotic artists, Michael Breyette, is having a sale on all prints in his couples gallery. Even if you don't buy, go and enjoy the pretty!

Finally, the Heat Wave contest will be held open all week over at Erotic Muses. All you have to do is leave a comment on each of the 4 entries. Easy peasy!

California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban

Find out what heroes your favorite authors would like on the desert island.

I often find ways to waste time when I should be working. Here are a few of my favorite places to read.

The Pioneer Woman's "Black Heels and Tractor Wheels". It's the multi-part saga of how the Pioneer Woman married the Marlboro Man. Trust me, it's one of the best romances you'll ever read.

The Comics Curmudgeon. Thanks to this blog, I'm all wrapped up in the drama of Apartment 3-G and More zippers, mule! is my favorite line ever. Lots of other fun stuff, too.

Judge a Book By It's Cover. Who doesn't love cover snark?

A Perfect World cartoons. You need to start on #16 and read straight through. It's the last line of each chapter of James Patterson's You Were Warned. A few literally made me laugh-out-loud.

My favorite webisode posted its final episode of its first season the week. If you've ever been involved in online game at all, you'll think The Guild is hysterically funny.

Internet Highlights of the Week

Since we are obviously addicted to the Internet, we've decided to devote Sundays to sharing some of the links that caught our eye the previous week. Seven new links we encourage you to take a look at!

1. In the spirit of giving, Ann Aguirre is sponsoring a charity fundraiser to help raise money for the children hit by the cyclone in Myanmar. She is offering to give away free books if you make a donation.

2. EREC is sponsoring a first line contest. Head over and vote for your favorite first line!

3. In the interest of the pretty, artist Michael Breyette finished new works this week called Restraint: Caged, Fenced, Walled. He specializes in erotic gay art, so please be warned, these are NSFW.

4. Hostage, an anthology from MLR Press, feature Josh Lanyon, Laura Baumbach, and Sarah Black is Now available at Barnes and Noble. It looks super hot.

5. A New-Found Species of Spiders is named after Neil Young. No lie.

A sneaky spider has been named in honor of rock musician Neil Young.

Jason Bond, a biologist at East Carolina University, named a newly discovered arachnid, Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi. It is also known as a trapdoor spider.

"There are rather strict rules about how you name new species," Bond said. "As long as these rules are followed you can give a new species just about any name you please."

6. If you enjoy alt-country (Wilco, Ryan Adams, Sun Volt, Uncle Tupelo, etc), then you should check out Atherton. I met a few of the members at a Wilco concert when one of them offered to take my picture with Jeff Tweedy. Anyway, their album Skyline Motel is great. You can hear samples of their tracks here.

7. Bam has posted Part 2 of Forsaken.
